History

The Bristol Maritime Trade Association (BMTA), formerly the Bristol Steamship Owner’s Association (BSSOA) which was founded on the 6th Nov 1907.

The objectives of the Association as laid down by the founders were...

"...to defend the interests of shipping, to take cognizance of all bills brought into parliament affecting British maritime commerce, and if considered necessary, to communicate through the appropriate channels with government thereon; to use all means in it’s power for the removal of evils and redress grievances, local or otherwise; and to obtain such alterations in existing laws and practices as may be considered necessary for the benefit of shipping"

The BMTA serves as an interest group for individuals involved in the maritime sector within the ports of Bristol. Membership enquiries are open to anyone who believes they meet the criteria and can participate in the association's activities.
